For most of us, when we don’t work, we don’t earn any money.  It only seems fair.  Work five hours, get paid for five hours.  Do you want to earn more money than that?  Then, work eight hours get paid for eight hours.  Most of us are used to working approximately 40 hour weeks in our regular job, and getting paid for those 40 hours.

So, the concept of earning money when you are not working seems absurd.  Why and how could you get paid for not working?  The company that allows that nonsense is certain to go broke.

Residual income works for everyone!

What if the company was not crazy;  what if they …were crazy like a fox?  What if they had set up a situation where you could work and earn money multiple times for that work?  What if you could have an especially bad month–a month with injuries or tragedy, not work; and still make money?  If a month like that did not hurt the company, it certainly would help the worker as she/he received her/his check (which might be quite an important check after a bad month.)

If one could create a residual income…then that would  be possible.  Work done is rewarded a month, two months…and many, many months later.  Thus, it would be possible to skip a month of work and not lose a paycheck.

Don’t make missing a month into a habit

We are all busy.  It is hard to clear time to work our home based business.  Missing any one day will not necessarily hurt your business in a large way.  But, it might!!!  Every day has the potential to be a breakout day; a day when previous work jells, and you lay the groundwork; earn money this month, next month, and for months thereafter.  That is why it is important to work your home based business whenever you can.  If missing a day can hurt your business, certainly missing 30 days will really damage your business!

But, there are situations where work just goes to the back burner.  If there is a death in the family or if you or a family member are sick and you can’t work your business, sometimes; missing work is unavoidable.

But, if missing a day can be damaging for your business, won’t missing a whole month be devastating?  Not necessarily.  If you have worked your business in previous months, you will probably collect your residual income check.  You may have lost potential to grow your business in that particular month, but…if you really work hard in the next month–you might find that you can make up for your lost work time–and more!!!

Just redouble your work efforts when you come back.  And, of course, don’t make missing a month of work at a time into a habit.  That needs to happen only on very rare situations.  (Do you want to know how a missed month may affect your income?  This blog has a simulator on it.  This simulator will demonstrate the effect skipping a month will have on your bottom line.)

If I am your business coach or mentor, you may come up with a convincing reason for not working.  I may completely buy it.  But, my opinion does not matter.  The bottom line is…Did you do enough to earn a check?  and Did you do enough to earn the check you wanted?

A residual income really is the best type of income.  You can work this month, and get paid next month, the month after that, etc.  You can even earn money when you are not working.  In emergency situations, you may miss a month; and still earn money.  But, it is unwise to miss multiple months.

Since my blog is about earning and spending money, I was thinking about people, money and parties.  People who

are at a party usually fall into one of three categories.  There are those who;

Earn money at the party

These are the workers.  Depending on the party, there are servers, hosts, valets, etc. who must get paid.  They go to the party to work.  They may go home and party later, but they are there to facilitate a good time for the partiers, not party themselves.

Earn money because of the party

These people make business contacts at the party.  They may be in sales, potitics, etc.   Sometimes business deals are cemented at the party.  But, for the most part, those who earn money because of the party are interested in meeting people.   They may want to meet as many people as possible.  Or, they may want to develop a business relationship with a certain key contact.  If that is your purpose, you certainly do not want to get drunk.  Those who are good at using a party for business purposes will usually keep a cocktail in hand…often, the same one for the entire night.

Spend money at the party

Many people earn money and set aside a certain amount to party.  Money needs to be spent on something.  Why not enjoy it at a party?  Drinks, transportation, host gifts, etc. cost money.  If you are going to attend a party, that cannot be avoided.  (Unless you can get someone else to pay your way.)   So, many people work for the week–looking forward to the big party on the weekend.

In general, people fall into one of these three categories.  There can be a mix–such as at an office party, when people work to set up the party and then join in.  There may be people who attend a party and accidentally make a key contact.  But generally, people at a party are in one of those three categories.

The point of this blog post is not to suggest that one category is better than another.  But, you should know which category you are in.   If you know why you are at a party, you will be more relaxed–or better prepared, depending on your purpose.  Are you working?  Are you trying to make a business contact?  Or are you there simply to have a good time?

Parties are not cheap.  Therefore, hosting or attending a nice party is a great goal for Earn More Spend More Group members.  A party can be very enjoyable.  If you work hard during the week, then you deserve a break.  What if your business could pay for your next party?

Imagine if your boss came to you and said, “We are going to cut your salary, but if you work hard, you can earn it back and more.  You will have monthly reviews; and a raise following those reviews.  If you could cut back for a short time would it be worth it?  Could you take a pay cut, with the promise of frequent raises starting next month?  How quickly would those raises add up? 

There is a reason companies don’t give out monthly raises.  A $3000 raise sounds like a lot.  A $100 raise sounds like peanuts.  But, a $100 monthly raise repeated throughout a year would equate to a $14,400 raise…far trumping a $3000 annual raise.  A company could go broke giving out raises like that!!!

Monthly raises–do they exist?

How could someone obtain a monthly raise?  Is there any way for an average guy to get a raise every month? 

I have looked through multiple business journals, and not found any articles about how to earn a monthly raise at a[traditional] job.  People would scoff at a $100 or less monthly raise.  It just wouldn’t be worth working for.  It is far better to work for a large raise [most people's opinion].  People would have to get re-educated.

And…businesses could not afford it.  So, don’t look at traditional businesses for monthly raises.

Where to Get a Monthly Raise

There are conditions under which a monthly raise would be possible.  You would have to be paid what you are worth.  You would have to be able to demonstrate that you are worth more this month than you were last month–each month.  If those criteria are met, you would receive monthly raises.

How is that possible?  A residual income source meets those criteria.  If you expand your business a bit each month, earning a monthly $100 raise is achievable.

Promises are Commitments

We make a lot of promises throughout our life.  When you make a promise, you are committing yourself to keeping that promise.  That ought to be important.  I have made and broken promises.  When I didn’t keep them, the consequences were never good; a couple times they were very bad.  I do not want to be a liar; you do not want to be a liar.

Goal: to earn money online (a promise to oneself)

You and I make many promises to ourselves.  In this blog post, I want to focus on one key promise, one key commitment; your personal goals.  If you want to make money on the internet, you probably wrote this promise down.  I did.  This promise, this commitment to yourself should definitely be in writing.  This is a promise I want to keep.  I am sure that you want to keep your promise, also.

There are a few things your personal goals should include.  They should include very specific goals–I will earn money on the internet is never good.  I will earn this amount of money or more on the internet than… is better.  It may serve as a broad heading.  The amount you earn and the way you will spend it are very important.   Specifics within your goal enrol the subconscious as the helper in keeping your goal.  If you make your goal and believe in your goal, you become very difficult to stop.

There is another very important factor.  Your commitment to your goal.  If your goal becomes a part of you, you will do everything you can to achieve it.  When you are committed to a goal, you will want to keep it, no matter what.  When you make a goal, you make a sacred promise to yourself.  Circumstances may dictate that your goal cannot be reached within the time frame you mention.  But, when you commit to a goal, you want to do everything possible to make it a reality.

Sometimes circumstances dictate that a goal cannot be reached.  You may have a family emergency that pulls your attention away from your goal.  There may be a personal situation that distracts you.  When these situations arise, it is best if you try to prevail; if you try to achieve your goal anyway.  Achieving a goal is not meant to be easy.  Life gets in the way.  There are always obstacles; you will always encounter hurdles as you pursue a worthy goal.

What if you didn’t reach your goal?

What if you just didn’t reach your goal?  What if an emergency pulled your attention away from your goal and you could not refocus in time?  What if…what if you just blew it off?  Today’s goal may be breakable, and you may still be able to earn money on the internet.  But, eventually you will run out of todays.  So, make a promise to yourself that you intend to keep.  But, if you fail, forgive yourself, and…

Whether you achieved your goal or not, to earn money on the internet, you must reset your goal.  As a goal it needs to be written.  It needs to be a promise to yourself.  To earn money on the internet, it is a promise you must keep.

Before I share my goals, here are three observations;

Inspiration for this blog post

This morning, my grandkids and I were walking to the park and the idea for this blog post came to me.  I began thinking of things that I would like to do with my grandkids, now and in the near future.  Where would I like to take them?  What things would I like to watch them see?  I love to watch their eyes as they absorb new information.  And, of course, the ultimate vacation for a kid is Disneyworld.  I will have to keep expanding my income; I must earn more money if I am to take them there.  But, a trip with my daughters, their spouses, and my 4 grandchildren would be awesome.

1/3, 1/3, 1/3

One of my goals has been to be able to split my after-tax money into thirds. 

1. I would like to give 1/3 away; split between my favorite charities and my family. 
2. I would like to save 1/3.  The proverbial rainy day may come.  My children or grandchildren may need me in ways I cannot now know.  Or, I may have to rely on my savings… 
3. I would like to be able to live comfortably on 1/3 of my income.  I must earn more money for that to happen.  But, this blog is growing and getting more and more visitors, so I believe that is not only possible, but likely in the near future.

Goals provide us with a reason to wake up each morning.  Pursuing them gives us a purpose.  I wish you all the best in pursuing your goals.  If your goals call for earning more money, I hope you will consider the Earn More Spend More Group.

A Positive Attitude is Necessary to Achieve Your Online Goals: (Earning Money)  

Setting goals is a major step towards achieving online success.  Yet, if you do not have a positive attitude about your ability to achieve them, you are wasting your time.  When you stop and think about it, the truth becomes self-evident.  [Ridiculous example; I want to earn more money than I have ever earned before.  But, I know it is impossible.]  You need a positive attitude; a belief that your goals are achievable.  In fact, you need to think that achieving your goals is only a formality.  You are working hard to achieve your goal of ____, which will be done by ____ [time].

A positive attitude will keep you going. but a negative attitude will act like a stop sign.  If you doubt your goals, you will subconsciously avoid “wasting” your efforts.  If you believe in your goals, and look forward to achieving them, they will act like a magnet.  You will do the necessary research.  You will work harder and believe that some day soon, you will achieve your goals.

Your Subconscious Will Reward Your Positive Attitude, or…

I didn’t go beyond the “or” part of that subheading.  We don’t need to talk about a negative attitude any more.

Dr. Maxwell Martz in Psycho-Cybernetics speaks of your subconscious acting as if you were tuning in to a radio station.  Tune in to a positive station, and your subconscious will reinforce your beliefs, and absolutely amaze you…your subconscious will become your staunch ally; working with you and showing you ways your goals can be achieved.  Turn in to a negative station…and just the opposite will happen.

“But I don’t have a positive attitude, how can I get one?”

Work at it; develop a positive attitude.  Make positivity a part of you.  Be certain you will achieve your goals.  Make your mantra, “I can and I will achieve my goal of ___.”  Repeat your mantra at every opportunity.  If you cannot create belief, don’t even think of earning money online.  Your time and goals will be wasted!

A positive attitude is absolutely vital for your online success.  Make positivity part of your program, and achieve your goals.  With a positive attitude, you will make more money than you ever thought possible.  Set your goals high.  Set your belief level even higher!  Believe and achieve!

Delays will not help you earn money

Procrastination is often the end of a business or a business idea.  There is always a [good] reason to delay.  “I can start after I get this one little problem worked out.”  And when that problem is worked out, it becomes–”I can start after I get this one little problem worked out”–with another problem.  One must be careful; but a perfectionist will never open his business…and never earn any money from it.

Starting your business–work hard, earn no money

Starting a traditional or online business is demanding.  Traditional entrepreneurs work long hours with little hope of earning any money until the third or fourth year.  Because of that and the high failure rate, many have looked at starting an online business.  But, that, too, is highly risky.  Online wannabe entrepreneurs are learning that there is  a lot more to earning money than putting up a web site and waiting for people to visit.  There is also a tremendously high failure rate for online entrepreneurs.  To be successful, entrepreneurs must get visitors.  And…some of those visitors must become customers.

If you are serious about running a business, you will have to be able to address multiple problems.  You will have to work through one problem, while another pressing problem has not yet been addressed.  You will have to bundle your problems, not work on them one by one, and waiting until they are all solved.  Are there solutions that solve multiple problems?  This type of thinking outside the box will be invaluable for the entrepreneur.

We all know that many businesses start and fail.  They do so for a variety of reasons; such as poor planning, bad breaks, or a lack of enterpreneurial energy (many new businesspeople work 14-15 hour days; 6 or even 7 days a week.  This can drain anyone’s energy!)

Don’t hurry; haste makes waste

The opposite of the procrastinator is the enterpreneurial hopeful who is always in a hurry.  Being quick is one thing.  Hurrying is another.  We know that when we hurry, we often make mistakes.  Better to take a few more seconds and do it right the first time.  When you are going too fast to get something done right the first time, you will end up doing it again, or leaving it undone. 

“Be quick, but don’t hurry.”

Coach Wooden’s basketball teams had a fantastic record.  His teams won 10 NCAA national championships.  Wooden’s advice, “Go quick, but don’t hurry,” was telling them that although they needed to be quick, they should not hurry and make sloppy mistakes. 

Marketers also need to be quick.  They need to be quick to adapt.  Markets are changing constantly.  The online world is fast becoming available to one app after another.  New and better social media platforms are constantly being launched.

Traditional businessmen need to adjust.  Many are discovering that they can get more bang for their buck with online advertising.  But, what worked a couple months ago may not be the best way to advertise today.  And, what worked a year ago online, may not be profitable any more.

Online businesses also need to be able to make rapid adjustments.  There are several new social media platforms that are  proving to be more interactive, and thus able to attract customers quicker, than the older methods–Twitter and Facebook.  Working within these structures and being able to make rapid changes is a more efficient way of keeping on top of the internet market.

But…for all business, hurrying is ill-advised.  Making quick, rash decisions will set a business back; or it may be the death knell for a struggling business.  Intense planning and careful decision making are essential. 

So, a business owner should be quick, but thorough.  There is always enough time to avoid hasty decisions.  In short, a business owner also needs to follow Coach Wooden’s advice, “Be quick, but do not hurry.”

Getting Started; How Much Money Can You Earn?–Set Your Goals

Everyone knows the director’s cues, “lights, camera, action,” that signal the actors to begin a scene from the movie.  The quote is not, “lights, camera, inaction.  Yet, there are many who want to earn money who think they are making major progress toward their goal, when they have not done anything.  Day after day; they read an article, write down a fuzzy plan, or make a phone call to sign up for something that will help them.  These are all steps.  But, they are baby steps.  Time is passing.

How do I know?  I experienced these setbacks.  I set lofty goals.  I was going to earn more money than… /I would…  But, I would do one or two things a day.  If not for an awakening, I could have been one of the many who had dreams, but gave up on them before I ever got going.

Your Investment to Start Earning Money–Research

Is your goal to start earning money on the internet?  Mine is.  Do you know what I learned?  There are more opportunities to earn money than ever before.  But, there are more people chasing those opportunities.  There are tons of people who got started…and failed.

Are your online difficulties an impassable brick wall?

me!”  I am certain that many of you have thoughts similar to that.  But, your mindset should be, what can I do to prevent failure?  How can I avoid throwing my time and money down the drain with some ill-advised plan? 

The answer; research.  Not like the research I was doing in the beginning.  Don’t do one or two things that take 5 or 10 minutes and call it a day.  What I am talking about is major research.  Do as much research every day as you would spend operating your online business if you were earning money.  In other words, invest all the time you can into your research.  Here are some research options:

1. Join a forum.  I am a member of the Warrior forum.  On that forum, you will find many very successful people sharing their information.  You will also notice that there are even more people who are getting started and sifting through the valuable information that can be found there.  Join them!  You will never regret it!
2. Start social media accounts.  Consider Twitter, Facebook, Google+ , etc.    Make a few posts every day.  Meet people…shooting out a series of posts will accomplish nothing.  If others have good information; share it!  Your goal is to make positive contacts.  You may even find a business partner.  Nothing will attract someone’s attention like sharing information about their #1 project!
3. Answer a question or two in YahooAnswers.  Then ask a question.  You will find experts falling all over themselves to share information with you. 
4. Are you starting to find your niche?  Google it and visit blogs in your niche.  Do you want to know what I discovered?  Most bloggers are experts.  And…they have to earn money.  They need to get people on their mailing list–most of the business is done by emailing their prospects information along with business offers.  What is valuable to you, that costs them nothing?  … an ebook, filled with valuable information for you to research.   (You do not need to purchase anything–but, you may want to.)  In other words–read a relevant blog, leave a positive comment, and collect the free ebook that many blogs offer in exchange for getting on their mailing list.  You will get tons of valuable information both from the blog and the ebook. 
5. This article is about the Earn More Spend More Group.  If your goal is to make money online; I hope you will consider joining the Earn More Spend More Group.  The home page has a map of the site.  For beginners, I suggest learning about the EMSMG concept from the Examples article and applying the concepts and learning the program from the Simulator.  You will find validation for the program in the Criteria section; which assures you that the program is on sound financial footing.  The other thing that you will discover in the Criteria section is that the EMSMG program is virtually risk free!  And, if you like stories…there is Charles.  We must never forget that we can learn from anyone–even kids.  Little Charles wanted a bike…if you ever want something as bad as Charles did; no one can stop you!

Hurdles–Don’t Let Them Stop You from Earning Money! Keep Striving toward Your Goals

....or are those difficulties just hurdles?

So, you want to earn more money online than you have ever earned in your life?   Here is an awakening; there will be difficulties (hurdles) along the way.  You will encounter one seemingly unfixable problem and then another–until you want to scream!  But please remember this; it is not unfixable, anything can be fixed!  There is no brick wall that will prevent you from earning money online.  You may think, “I might as well take a break until I can ask someone who can help.  Oh, he/she is busy and can help me next week–I will wait until I have the answer, then I can start again.”  I did, and it delayed my progress for weeks and months.  Don’t follow my example!!!  I promise…this is what I do now, and what you should do when you encounter a hurdle which seems to be a brick wall; ask yourself these two questions;

1. What is the best way of fixing this problem? 
2. What can I do to best help my business in the meantime?

Don’t stop, just continue!

Starting an online business is not easy.  But, there are many resources to help you get going, so invest your time doing as much research as you can; until you are ready to get started.  Even as you encounter difficulties, you want to keep going.  Your goal is to start as quickly as possible, yet be prepared through your research to deal with difficulties that will arise.  You can do both by doing thorough research in a limited time frame and then…get started.

 Is your internet journey about earning money?  If so, has it started?  Have you taken that first step yet?  There are many ways to earn money on the internet.  Some are risky.  Others will end up paying you  a few cents an hour.  The Earn More Spend More Group is a no-risk motivational program, specially designed to help you earn money.  It certainly is not the only option out there.  However, I believe it is the best of the best.  OK, let’s talk about preparing for that single step to help you earn money.

Planning; A vital step in any journey (set goals)

Do you plan to earn money on the internet?  Are you earning money yet?  What are your goals?  As I talk to people, many say that their goal is to earn more money on the internet than they earn at their regular job.  They think that that will give them freedom to quit their job.  Maybe yes, maybe no.  Whatever your goals are–you have to believe they are possible, and do whatever it takes to make them real, or you have no goals. 

Don’t set your goals unrealistically high; you will not start out earning more money than top bloggers do

 The rookie desire is to “conquer the world”–OK, I simply mean that rookies tend to think they can earn more money in their first year than they will ever make.  Do not to expect to earn more than the top bloggers do.  Especially in your first year!!!  Please set goals that you can reach; hopefully exceed!

It certainly makes sense to begin with the outcome in mind.  It is not necessary to carry that to extremes (I will make $153,000 in my third year), but one should have a reasonable idea of what lies ahead, and what it will take to earn that money.  For instance, someone interested in the Earn More Spend More Group might want to find out about company Criteria, find out what active EMSMG members can earn in their fourth year (How to Earn $57,600 a Year), or try the simulator to understand the possibilities for the next few years.

Research; the preparation for your online journey

What do you need to do in the next few years?  Even if you want to sell trinkets, you need a plan.  Creating and maintaining a blog will be helpful.   Setting up accounts in Twitter, facebook, Google +, etc. will help you brand yourself as an expert  It is not a simple process, so you may want to rub shoulders with like-minded people in forums, hangouts, etc.  It sounds so complicated, but once you get started you will find that there is a lot of help online.

If you were going on a long journey, you would spend hours getting the right gear and deciding exactly what you could take, and what equipment you do not need.  In the online world your preparation is research; collecting information.  Good information will keep you from making expensive mistakes.  It might point you in a different direction than you had originally planned.  You should plan on doing research as if you were working a job.  Schedule hours and do as much research as possible for a reasonable time.  If you are researching the Earn More Spend More Group, you will want to attend a meeting.  See Informational Meetings for a schedule.  Since it is a no-risk business, you can start earning money even while you are doing your research.

The first step; get started

That brings us to your first step.  What is your first step?  Once you have done your research, you have to get started.  If you have done your homework, you have a good idea of what lies ahead of you.   Hopefully, research has shown you more realistic numbers than you wanted to see.  Honest numbers…unfortunately not quite the large earning potential that you originally envisioned.

An online journey to earn money sounds like a simple, straightforward concept.  It is a simple concept, but it must begin with hours of preparation (research); just like you would prepare if you were taking a long journey.  Your journey begins when you put your research to work for you and start earning money.

The newbie attitude–Lofty goals

Remember when you began to see the possible ways you could earn money on the internet?  You heard stories about people earning tons of money.  You wanted to earn even more money!  You set lofty goals.  You would put up a killer blog—people would come to you with hundreds and thousands of dollars.  You would earn more and more money.  You would be sooo…rich!

When a newbie comes to you with his/her goals and wants to earn money on the internet;  remember your early, unrealistic expectations.  You now have a point of reference to empathize with those lofty goals and dreams.  You want to help him/her get started.  How do you help that newbie earn more money, achieve his/her goals, and maintain a positive attitude?

I am not certain about this advice. I could be wrong. The best advice one could give a newbie who wants to earn money online might be close to my advice. Or,…I could be way off the mark. (It would not be the first time…nor the last time.)  But, I don’t think I am.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Good advice and better advice

There is good advice, better advice, and best advice.  It is not hard to give a newbie good advice.  Stay away from certain people.  Do not listen to their nonsense.  Do not buy what they are selling.  Don’t fall for schemes.  Team up with people whose goals and dreams are similar to yours.  Use your time wisely.  Start a blog.  Blog about what you love.  Maintain a positive attitude.  Use videos in your marketing.  Really yearn for your goals; make them a part of you, like Charles did.

All these are good pieces of advice.  A mentor would certainly hit upon some of them, and offer many more nuggets of wisdom.  But, there is better advice and…there is the best advice you can give a newbie.

Very good advice to give a newbie would be to seek out a mentor.  There are many successful people online.  As people, they are proud of what they have accomplished.  When you approach a successful person in a respectful way and honor his/her accomplishments, there is a good chance that person will want to become your mentor.  Gaining a mentor is extremely helpful in building an online business.  But, there is one piece of advice that you could give a newbie that is even better than, “Go get a mentor.”

Best advice: Develop a humble attitude and learn first; then get started

I believe this is the best advice one can give a newbie.  Why?

1. There are hundreds, no thousands of bloggers and online marketers.  They need visitors.  What can they offer to keep visitors interested in their site; and ultimately earn money from their purchases?  Bloggers bring visitors in and keep them by giving them something of value.  If their competitor gives away something even better; people will go there.  And what can a marketer give away, without spending a dime, that has value?  Information.  By reading and learning from this free information; the newbie can acquire knowledge that can save her/him hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars.
2. Learning may help a newbie find or change her/his niche.  Have you ever changed your mind?  Some of us are stubborn, and reluctant to do so.  Yet, repeated expert advice may influence a newbie in a way that others cannot.  Even a respected mentor is only one person.  How often have you had the attitude, “I will show him that it can be done?”  But, if multiple experts point out the difficulties, a newbie may see the light.
3. Developing a humble attitude is more difficult for some than for others.  But, there are always those who know more than you.  You must believe that, seek out the advice of those experts, and follow it or  your internet business will be in serious trouble.  You will not achieve your goals.  Your chances of earning more money online than you make in your regular job are zero.  Those who do not seek wisdom from the achievers and follow it will, in all likelihood, fail.

Humbling yourself and learning before doing has three advantages for the newbie.  The newbie can; get great information for free from bloggers,  find or change his/her niche, and avoid a total failure.  So, the best advice for a newbie, in my opinion, is “humble yourself and learn first; then get started.”  Hmmm…that sounds like great advice in the real, offline world!
