I imagine you have watched films of old, old basketball games, back in the days when the athletes shot the two-handed set shot. Millions of children were taught to shoot that way. Millions were certain they were learning the best, easiest, most efficient way to shoot. That was THE WAY to shoot. Period. Then, Hank Luisetti started using a new shot, a one-handed shot. Result: on January 1, 1938 he became the first player to score 50 points in a game. This was in an era when teams almost never scored anywhere near 50 points. Now, no one uses the two-handed set shot! It just doesn’t work…  What makes a better way? Everybody is doing it this way…why does someone try doing it that way? Soon, the question is why didn’t everybody do it that way? Anybody could have found the improvement. Why didn’t somebody find it before?

Millions, yes billions of slices were sold before the 1960s. Yet, it was Tom Monaghan of Domino’s pizza in the 1960s who looked at a situation and saw it as an opportunity:  College kids would buy his pizzas.  But, he learned that many, many more would buy his pizzas if it were brought to them.  Other pizza shop enterpreneurs had similar opportunities, but they saw it as a too-bad-for-them situation. — “If they could get here, they could buy my pizza!”

Home-Based Business’s Goal Setting Techniques

Thousands — or is it tens of thousands of home based business hopefuls write down their goals every year. They usually focus on their long-term goals — rarely their short-term goals. As part of the goal-setting process, the mentor will advise them to write down their reasons — their “whys” for their goals. Popular answers include: to pay off debts, for my family, and to save for a rainy day.

It’s great to know your long-term goals. I recommend that everyone write down their long-term goals, and know the big picture. But that’s not where your major focus should be.
